When we launched SakeTest.com our Chief Sommelier was Mr. Mats Bruzaeus that had experience of Japan since 1991 and lived in this fantastic country for 16 years. He had the pleasure of studying Sake over the years in Japan; visited several breweries, tasted many brands, discussed Sake flavor and read enlightening books about this ancient and sacred fluid. He was also regularly visiting Sake Plaza in Tokyo to taste and discuss sake with brewers.

Mats Bruzaeus studied at the Sake Brewer’s Association in Nishi-shinbashi under the inspiring teacher Mr. John Gauntner, the most distinguished and respected foreign Sake professional in Japan. Bruzaeus passed the final comprehensive examination with good grades and was a Level 1 Sake Specialist or Sake Sommelier.

Mats Bruzaeus passed away in 2015. SakeTest.com will go on to spread Mats Bruzaeus insights and as he often said: “Make life even richer for gaijins with sake” (Gaijin=name of a foreigner in Japan).
